Letters from Madelyn – Chapter 17
“Madelyn Learns About the Healing Power of Reiki”
When my mother first started writing to me about the healing power of Reiki, I was skeptical. She was always looking for ways to grow mentally and spiritually, and when she learned about Reiki, she was on fire with enthusiasm.
Reiki is a Japanese technique of laying on hands and using one’s life force energy to reduce stress and promote relaxation. She became a certified Reiki instructor when she was 75.
I knew Dad was never going to get well, and I wasn’t sure I believed that Reiki had the power to heal anything. In retrospect, I realize that Mom was staying connected to my dad physically and spiritually through the treatments she gave him every night at bedtime. She was doing something that calmed and relaxed him and made him feel loved.
We all know that none of us are going to get out of this world alive, so as we approach the end of life, maybe we should be focusing on being spiritually healed rather than on getting well physically. When every medical treatment has failed and there is no hope for a cure, I can’t think of anything that could be more reassuring and comforting than receiving the calm, warm and reassuring touch of someone who loves me.
If you can find the time to listen to this episode of “Letters from Madelyn”, you’ll hear how her belief in the healing power of Reike helped her share her spiritual energy, compassion and love with my dad.
